“Dark Side of the Circus” returns to San Francisco after a west coast tour!
A psychedelic circus journey through Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon”!
SAN FRANCISCO. May 10-19, 2024. Back from a mini-tour of California and Mexico, Bow & Arrow Circus Theatre Collective presents “Dark Side of the Circus” at CounterPulse in San Francisco. An intricately choreographed ensemble piece performed to Pink Floyd’s classic album, the show features the best of the Bay Area’s circus talent. Loosely following the narrative of the album’s classic companion piece, “The Wizard of Oz,” Dorothy is transported to a magical circus world of both playful and terrifying experiences. Developed under the auspices of the Artist Residency program at Circus Center in San Francisco.
This show took 17 years to make, but now look at it go! Growing up in the Haight Ashbury district, where she was inevitably immersed in Pink Floyd’s music, director Genie Cartier came up with the idea for Dark Side of the Circus at 16 years old. Eventually, with a lot of hard work and support from over 100 donors, the show was two weeks away from its premiere in April 2020 when the pandemic hit and delayed the show another 2 years. Finally, in September 2022 “Dark Side of the Circus” premiered, and it hasn’t stopped going since! In 2023, the show toured to Mexico, Humboldt and Mendocino County, bringing high quality circus theater to communities who would never otherwise have access to it. Now, the polished show returns to its hometown of San Francisco, complete with new cast members, new acts and a whole new performance space– the incredible CounterPulse theater!
